Psycho-Oncology
Support in the context of cancer – for patients and relatives
A cancer diagnosis does not only affect the body. It changes life on many levels – physically, emotionally, and within one’s social environment.
Many people experience uncertainty, anxiety, or a sense of inner overwhelm.
Relatives are often deeply affected as well and may be searching for a way to cope with the situation.
Psycho-oncological support offers a protected space to make sense of these experiences and to develop a way of dealing with them.
When can psycho-oncological support be helpful?
- after diagnosis, in coping with shock and uncertainty
- during treatment, when facing anxiety, strain, or exhaustion
- in dealing with physical changes and their impact on self-image
- when changes in partnership or family life become challenging
- in the face of existential questions, worries, or fears about the future
- for relatives experiencing their own stress or sense of helplessness
My approach
In my work, I combine psycho-oncological expertise with my broader therapeutic background.
I work from a systemic and resource-oriented perspective. This also means taking into account how the illness affects your environment, your relationships, and your everyday life. The focus is on what may be helpful in your specific situation. The aim is not to cope in a “right” way, but to find an individual and sustainable way of dealing with the situation.
Systemic Therapy
It helps to understand connections, develop new perspectives, and expand your scope for action.
Couples Therapy
It can be supportive when an illness places strain on a relationship, when conversations become difficult, or when different ways of coping lead to tension.
Hypnotherapy (Ericksonian approach)
It can facilitate access to inner resources and help restore a sense of inner stability and calm.
Mindfulness-Based Methods
They support a different way of relating to difficult thoughts and emotions and help to remain more stable in the present moment.
